Hybrid Car Acronyms and Definitions:
  • Regenerative Braking - The process by which hybrid cars recapture energy into a battery that would otherwise be lost in the form of heat.
  • Hydrogen Economy - a hypothetical future economy in which the primary form of stored energy for mobile applications and load balancing is hydrogen (H2). In particular hydrogen is proposed as a fuel to replace the gasoline and diesel fuels currently used in automobiles.
  • Regenerative Brake - an apparatus, a device or system which allows a vehicle to recapture and store part of the kinetic energy that would otherwise be 'lost' to heat when braking.
  • Green Power - Electricity that is generated from renewable energy sources is often referred to as green power. Green power products can include electricity generated exclusively from renewable resources or, more frequently, electricity produced from a combination of fossil and renewable resources. Also known as blended products, these products typically have lower prices than 100 percent renewable products. Customers who take advantage of these options usually pay a premium for having some or all of their electricity produced from renewable resources.
  • ECU - ECU Engine Control unit is the computer in the automobile that gets input from a multitude of sensors and adjusts the operation of the engine for optimum performance based on those inputs.
